Amazon Alexa vs Google Home: Which assistant is best in 2022?

If you try to ask “Alexa, turn on the lights and tell me what the weather forecast is for tomorrow”, you’ll find that it’ll only deal with one of the things you’ve asked. Technically, they cannot do all of the things that Siri can do on an iPhone - but they also live on Android phones - and Fire devices where they can do many of those things as well. And despite the fact that you do mention it in other sections - you seem to have forgotten that Siri on other devices like the Apple TV, iPad and Apple watch CANNOT do all of those things. When I asked about traffic on the local interstate, however, Siri was honest about its shortcomings and gave me information about general traffic conditions. Not only can it give you a sense of how long it will take you to get someplace, but it can also offer you directions and automatically start GPS navigation. While Siri can get transit directions as well, it does a mediocre job of answering questions about traffic, since it just kicks you to the iOS Maps app.

They’re even good for when you just want to share some songs with someone regularly. The key feature of the Echo Dot with Clock, as you may imagine, is the addition of a LED digital clock to the front of the round Dot. The display is always on and shows the time, temperature, or other at-a-glance information. The digital clock also makes it ideal for bedside use or even in a bathroom, which is where I opted to use mine. For light-sensitive sleepers, a built-in light sensor adjusts the display’s brightness to keep it neutral for sleeping. If on the approved list, you can establish a connection immediately.

Multitasking: Google Assistant

Like a larger version of the Google Home Hub, the Nest Hub Max is big-screen smart display for your home, with a front-facing camera for video calls and the facility to check on your home remotely. In the end, the race was a close one, with Alexa pulling ahead of Google Assistant, thanks to strong performance in the smart home and communications arenas. But Google was certainly no slouch, and the fact remains that both are still strong choices, depending on which capabilities you prioritize. While both do pretty well in the case of general knowledge and extendability, for example, if you want the broadest possible support for music and podcast services, Alexa is probably the one to pick. If, on the other hand, you have a household with multiple people in it, each of whom want to get their own personal information via a smart speaker, Google Assistant might be a better choice. Both assistants obviously integrate with their company's respective music services, and in some cases offer the ability to link to third-party offerings as well.

This compatibility makes it easier to automate your home with Alexa. It comes with better sound quality and a wall-mounting option to save space on shelves and tables. Another feature we like is the option to show curated photos from Google Earth and artwork when the screen's not in use. This is in addition to drawing from your Google Photos collection. It adds a touch of sophistication to your space with its minimally rounded corners and matte touches.

Alexa vs Google Assistant: Which is better for a smart home?

Google Assistant, meanwhile, uses the Google Shopping platform, so it has a wider reach. However, finding specific products or getting the results you want may be more challenging, especially without an accompanying smart display. You can also reorder an item, but Google can’t give the same recommendations as Alexa can. Both the Echo Dot line and the Nest Mini line allow you to use their respective assistants to set up voice shopping capabilities. However, they approach this in significantly different ways.

We chose these devices by a mix of research and using them ourselves. We compared factors like pricing, reviews , different features, and compatibilities. This helps support our work, but does not affect what we cover or how, and it does not affect the price you pay.

But the best Google Home compatible devices don't necessarily top the best Alexa compatible devices nor the best HomeKit devices. Every home is different, so you'll need to decide which assistant is right for you. My opinion is that Sonos app is better than Bose home speaker. Sonos software makes it easy to redo all the superb audio in a house. Soundbar, the company finally has a One equivalent for its TV speakers. Apple is going to expand its end-to-end encryption through Advanced Data Protection and is adding two other security options as well. All of these subscription options are very cool, but ultimately, when it comes down to it, free is free. Spotify Premium Family is very similar to Premium Duo, as all members must live at the same address.

We rarely uttered, "What? I can't understand you." It was a simpler time. We've all used FaceTime or some similar video chat capability on our phones. The Echo Show does the same thing, except it has to be plugged in and must sit in one spot. I'm not sure why we have the Show instead of a regular Echo, but that's what my wife wanted.

Assistant can also integrate with products from most major brands, including Philips, Belkin, August, Nest, and popular apps such as Spotify and Uber. In 2021, smart home systems and devices are more impressive and all-encompassing than ever. If you’re talking entirely about first-party hardware, the answer is Alexa. You can pair a couple of Echo speakers and/or an Echo Sub directly with a Fire TV device. If you use a couple of Echo Studios, you can even get Dolby Atmos.

Alexa vs. Google Assistant vs. Siri: Online shopping

The Google Home app is functional but not well organized — accessories are in a long vertical list, and it’s not always obvious how to create automation routines. Some good news is that outside of photos, both platforms support plenty of third-party alternatives. They each allow Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and more for music, not to mention video services like Netflix and HBO Max. As we’ve suggested before however, if you’re a diehard YouTube fan, you’re going to want Assistant.

In terms of being able to find and play podcasts, both assistants have improved further since our last comparison. Alexa now lets you link your Apple Podcasts account like a music service, giving tighter integration for those on iOS devices and Macs, while Google Podcasts seems to have improved on the Assistant.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

The Echo Show is great for staying in touch with friends and family, as you can call anyone who has the Alexa app or another Echo device. With its 5.5-inch display, you can use it to show family photos, view weather forecasts, and watch TV programmes. I tried a handful of queries related to ordering food, making reservations and getting recipes. All three assistants offered recommendations for a good Indian restaurant in my neighborhood, including varying details such as address, rating and prices. Alexa vs. Google Assistant vs. Siri — which one best for you? Both shopping options can shop by recognized voice, but Alexa provides an additional security code option you can enable for safety.

Even better, dock Siri serious points for not being able to do anything without a phone while the others can do all of that on a phone, plus some of it on home devices. When it comes to aesthetics, the two smart speakers differ in size, but are both covered with fabric and use LED lights to visually communicate. Set next to one another, it’s apparent that the new spherical shape of the Echo Dot makes it look larger than the Nest Mini — nearly double its height. Despite this, it’s a refreshing design change that we appreciate. It costs $229 (£219, $349), similar to the original price of the 10-inchLenovo Smart Display.
